Here's a few lines on Club Spadger ....
Team Spadger consists of Mooch, the Danny Kebabs and many other
extraordinary characters.
Some time in March 2006 various members of Team Spadger were
standing in Doctor Brown's listening to an unruly jam session.
After a few ales we got on to the familiar topic of there being
a lack of decent gigs for our bands to play in Middlesbrough.
We wanted a night where we could play and wear spandex and agreed
that they were few and far between. So we had a heated debate
... and a few ales later the golden egg of Club Spadger was
laid - just next to the fag machine.
Yes, like many others before us, we decided to put on our own
night. But this was to be no ordinary night, for our gigs are
anything but ordinary - as anyone who has seen them will attest.
In fact, being extraordinary is a team rule.
We can boast the world's smallest (but best equipped) VIP lounge
and the most outlandish costumes worn for miles around (hello
Lee "bad news" Dunn).
Club Spadger was now born, and ran monthly throughout the summer
featuring Our European Cousin Frank, Jimmy Trimmer And The Good
Drugs and Orwell to name a few.
As interest grew we were invited by TJ to move the night into
the Purple Onion cellar bar and seized the opportunity as it
is a team favourite.
On August 11 2006 our opening night featured The Cutters, Dirty
Weekend, the Kebabs and Bill Angus alongside a fully sanctioned
WWF wrestling bout and many sweaty pirates. It was a bit special.
Since then it has gone from strength to strength, hosting wig
nights, hunting themes, and many more themes. Recently we celebrated
our first birthday party, it was a wrestling / stripping extravaganza
! So there you have it, once a month (2nd Friday) in the Cellar
Bar, come on down and walk on the wild side ... |
